The Programme for Capacity Development in Africa (P4CDA) is the South-South Secretariat for GODAN, facilitating peer learning and technology transfer across developing nations.
Housed within the University of Nairobi, in the Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Technology, we serve as a bridge between academia and real-world agricultural challenges.
Our role as the South-South Secretariat allows us to connect Africa, Asia, and Latin America, fostering a global exchange of knowledge to solve local problems.
P4CDA was established to operationalize the Nairobi Declaration, a historic agreement from the 2017 Ministerial Conference on Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition. Ministers from 15 African nations convened and committed to making agricultural data open, accessible, and usable.
We are the vehicle for these commitments, translating high-level policy into grassroots action through initiatives like FarmHubs and GALS.
"To support and promote the creation and implementation of open data platforms and the adoption of technology towards agriculture growth. Moving Africa from Data Advocacy to Data Action."
Using the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) to give women and youth control over their economic lives and decision-making.
Offering digital literacy, data science, and GIS curriculums to rural youth, turning them into capable agri-entrepreneurs.
Specialized teams focusing on key sectors: Crop Production, Livestock (e.g., goat breeding data), and Nutrition.
Targeting farmers aged 65+ who often lack extension services, bridging the digital gap using youth-led interventions.
